The drive to Smoky Hill Vineyards and Winery, in Salina, takes visitors to a rural setting located near the spot where I-70 and I-135 intersect. It's on Golf Link Road-although there isn't a hint of a Golf Course anywhere nearby. A gravel road leads up a gentle hill to the tasting room and wine shop, past dozens of grape vines.
The state's largest grape-producing winery creates more than two dozen wines. It's a great place to sip your favorite, on the spacious deck or inside the comfortable tasting room. It's also a lovely spot for a summer or fall stroll through the vineyards, when they are lush with fruit.
Smoky Hill Vineyards and Winery grows its grapes across 20 acres in the Salina area and then creates award-winning red, white and fruit wines, plus a couple of lovely ports. In fact, the winery received Silver Medals for its River Valley Red - Sweet Lady - 2006 Norton; River Valley Red; and 2006 Norton, at The Grand Harvest Awards. The international wine competition held in Santa Rosa, CA, featured upwards of 1,700 wines from throughout the world.
Good wine and a beautiful setting make this a 'must visit' spot the next time you're in Salina.
