A long gravel country road leads to The Bunkhouse Bed & Breakfast at Wildfire Ranch, a property that offers log cabins filled with every modern amenity - from fully equipped kitchens to free WiFi. The ranch also offers spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding rural countryside.
Perhaps at no time are the views more spectacular than as a storm develops near sunset. Within only 1/2 an hour, the sky changes from bright and sun-kissed to deep gray and threatening.
But, as with much Kansas weather, seeing a storm doesn't necessarily mean that rain will drum upon your rooftop and lightning will split the sky before morning arrives.
Although this storm passed by and the ground remained parched, I'll never forget that ever-changing vista.
